My Story

Rowing was first introduced to Wychwood, Oxford over 110 years ago under the watchful eye of one of its founding teachers, who then had an intricate award system for our pupils that progressed them through the ranks of oarsmen, mates, half captains and captains.

With support from British Rowing, Wychwood is now reintroducing rowing to the school in strategic partnership with Hinksey Sculling School as a ‘whole school’ curriculum sport from September 2021, running a duel system of ‘participation’ for those pupils that want to enjoy this fabulous sport and an ‘elite’ program with defined scholarships, to enable the school to compete at the very highest level in the coming years. Wychwood might be a small school but that doesn’t mean we can’t be fierce competition!

Wychwood are very excited to take part in the Big Row alongside Hinksey to raise money in support of the Love Rowing charity. As we all look forward to supporting the GB Rowing squad this summer in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, we have set ourselves the target of rowing 2021 km on ergo’s, over the course of a week to raise £2021!

Being new to rowing, this will be a BIG challenge for us but one that all of our pupils and staff are excited to attempt!
